The concept designs for the new Fairpark Reserve Community Hub in Ferntree Gully have been released and they look sensational!
The Community Hub was an election commitment of mine and will house the Fairpark Football Club, Johnson Park Cricket Club and Fairpark Netball Club, as well as providing a new home for U3A Knox, which is possibly the largest club in Knox with over 1,400 members.
$3 million of federal funding has been secured for the project which will include a new multi-purpose facility, refurbishment of the existing U3A building and extra parking. Knox Council are also making a significant contribution and will manage the construction, which is expected to start early next year.
Local sport is the lifeblood of our community, and it is great to see continued progress on other local sporting facilities across Knox which I committed to at the last election. This includes the new Knox Regional Netball Centre in Ferntree Gully which continues to take shape, with the foundations having recently been laid. The new centre will include two new indoor courts, seating for 300 spectators, an extra 180 car parks and a general facelift for the complex.
Other local sporting commitments which are already completed include lighting upgrades at Ferntree Gully Bowls Club and Kings Park in Upper Ferntree Gully. Both projects will help these clubs to expand their programs and grow with our community.
I will always fight for better local sporting facilities because I believe they benefit the entire local community.
I’m very much looking forward to getting back down to our local sporting clubs now that restrictions have eased.
