New look FTG Library

After 11 years of heavy duty, Ferntree Gully Library has been renovated and re-designed in a way that reflects changing patterns of use.

First impressions are of spaciousness, clean signage on pale wood, and plenty of seating.

Librarian Denise Hibbs has noticed the new trends.

‘Libraries used to be crammed with rows and rows of shelves and very quiet,’ she says. ‘Reading was a solitary occupation. Now there is a greater sense of sharing and
getting together to find new things.’

There is a bright new space for children and more computers and work tables for laptop connections.

Books are still there and popular. Readers have access to the whole network of libraries in Knox.

The library now opens at 9am. Staff are pleased with their ‘new’ library and eager to show visitors around.

See the website for full range of special activities.
