The major redevelopment of the Angliss Hospital opened on 15 July, with the first patients transferred into the new ward and surgeries having commenced in the new operating theatres.

I had the fortune of enjoying a sneak peek alongside Premier Jacinta Allan, and Minister for Health Hon. Harriet Shing, ahead of the official opening, and witnessed the incredible transformation of a major part of this much-loved hospital which has been caring for our community for nearly 90 years.

Our Government’s significant investment has delivered 32 new inpatient beds, four operating theatres, expanded outpatient and allied health services, and created a new central sterile supply department and additional parking for staff. These improvements mean more people can access the care they need, closer to home. In speaking with the staff – the nurses, doctors, technicians and admin support – it was evident that there is much excitement amongst them all to be working in this new part of the hospital.

The Angliss provides such great care and now this area will have exceptional facilities to match it.

In more welcome news, in the coming months our State Government will be introducing legislation to further strengthen nurse-to-patient ratios at a number of hospitals across Victoria, including the Angliss. These reforms mean better care for patients and safer workplaces for nurses and midwives. They will help our health system continue to meet the needs of communities like ours.

Strong local health services are essential, and I know our community will welcome this significant investment in improving this great hospital.
