A fantastic night was had by all who attended the Ferntree Gully Tennis Club’s Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser evening on April 26th.
Members and guests were welcomed on arrival with a glass of champagne or a luscious mocktail and a goodie bag that contained some small gifts, discounts, and gift certificates from local businesses.
The MC of the night was the bubbly and charismatic Eve Johns from FTG Bendigo Bank, who is a generous sponsor of many programs at Ferntree Gully Tennis Club and the wider community. Eve introduced the guest speaker which was Breast Care Nurse Christine Gray from Eastern Health. Christine’s presentation informed attendees about breast cancer awareness, self-examination, advances in treatment and prevention. Christine’s caring, warm, lighthearted, and very informative approach to a serious subject made all attendees feel comfortable enough to share experiences and to ask questions.
Ms. Mary Doyle MP was in attendance as a guest and was very courageous to share her own firsthand experience as a breast cancer survivor. Mary’s story was very honest and sincere which was quite touching.
The night then progressed to some fun with a “Pink” quiz which was themed around all things pink, this was put together by one of our amazing committee members Patrina Metcalf, who works at Breast Screen Victoria. To finish the night some exciting raffle prizes were drawn. The event raised almost $2,000 which was donated to the Eastern Health foundation to help support patients and their families going through breast cancer treatment and recovery.
A big thank you to the committee members of Ferntree Gully Tennis Club that volunteered their time organising the event, and the many sponsors that helped support the evening – Bendigo Bank, Tennis Victoria, Luxe-Brew, No-da Coffee, Nature’s Beauty Secrets, Marino Country Online Store, Caesars Restaurant, Foodworks Ferntree Gully, JM Stringing, Sherrin Footballs, and Cherry Gay Florist. Ferntree Gully Tennis Club are committed to providing a fun, active, and inclusive club which supports the Ferntree Gully area community.
