Message from Jackson Taylor MP
G’day, my name is Jackson Taylor and you might’ve seen me about locally before. I’m a proud Knox local and the State Member for the Bayswater District representing a number of suburbs within Knox.
As some of you may know, every two election cycles there is a redistribution undertaken to ensure each electorate has about the same number of enrolled voters. This gives Victorians equal representation in Parliament. This is conducted by Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC) and as at 28 October they have finalised the boundaries for the next election.
Here are the key changes in relation to Ferntree Gully for the Bayswater District, which take effect next Election Day in 2022:
The southern boundary has moved significantly south after the commission abolished the Ferntree Gully
District to take in portions of Ferntree Gully both above and below Burwood Highway, bordered by Scoresby Road to the west, future road extension to the east and Monbulk Creek to the south.
As such, I’m really excited to be hearing from all of you in Ferntree Gully and to get things done. For those of you who don’t know me – I’m a proud local and believe we truly live in one of the best parts of Victoria and I’m committed to delivering for the community I love each and every day.
My priorities have been shaped by my personal experiences around my exposure to family violence, witnessing substance abuse and spending time in out of home care in my childhood. It’s why I’m passionate about addressing issues around mental health and family violence – that’s what motivated me to become a Victorian Police Officer, a Police Prosecutor and a local Councillor.
I’ll always be out in our community, supporting our hospitals, our schools and our grassroots clubs – as well as delivering local road and public transport projects and delivering local jobs. Because I want to be a Member of Parliament that listens to you and delivers for our community. You deserve nothing less.
Saying thanks to the locals
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say I’m so proud of our local community. We’ve turned up in huge numbers, leading the way on vaccines and staying safe.
As we safely reopen, please continue to take care and remember to get behind our local businesses who’ve been waiting for us to return and back them in. So, if you can, get out and support local. I know I will be, and I know we all have been wherever we can.
Together, you’ve helped to get us through this difficult part of the pandemic. I’m over the moon we’re now able to get back to doing the things we missed so much.
That’s all for now, until next time – stay well.
