Congratulations to Cr John Mortimore who has been elected as Mayor of Knox for the coming year.
First elected in 2008, Cr Mortimore (age 72) is now in his third term and was deputy mayor in 2017. A well-known and popular figure as he (mostly) cycles about his Chandler Ward, he has been prominent in streetscape improvements in the Basin and in the success
of the Basin Music Festival.
Mayor Mortimore said he was thrilled to be elected to the role at a meeting of Council on 1st November.
‘Being elected Mayor is more than just a vote of confidence in me,’ he explained. ‘It’s a vote of confidence in the future of our city and the strategic direction of Council. I’m proud to work with, and now lead, such a capable team of councillors and look forward to building
on the achievements of the last 12 months.’
In a personal capacity John Mortimore is editor of the Boronia-Basin Community News and Ferntree Gully News is grateful for his help in setting up the first edition of Gully News, as well as encouraging the growth of community newspapers in Knox.
During the same Council meeting, Cr Jake Keogh (age 22) was elected Deputy Mayor for 2018.
Cr Keogh was elected Councillor for Dobson Ward in October 2016 and has been both energetic and enthusiastic in his first year of office.
Residents in the Foothills Wards of Chandler and Dobson look forward to seeing our representatives leading the momentum of Knox Council in 2018.
