Yarning Circle and Bush Tucker Garden

Coonara Community House was the proud recipient of the Living Local Surburban Grant this year and have been busy implementing a very special project that is close to our hearts called the ‘Yarning Circle‘.
The project involves opening our doors at Coonara to explore, learn and promote local indigenous culture to our community. Creating an inclusive, safe and welcoming space for all to enjoy. We have been busy working on the following:
- Bush Tucker Gardens
- Smoking Ceremony fire pit
- Yarning Circle culturally safe space
- Cultural Competency sewing classes
- Co-designing a large mural with a local Indigenous artist
- Cultural Community Kitchen
- Streetscape art involving Indigenous children
- Sharing music, dance and art
- large Mural painted by local Indigenous Artist
This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with First Nations people, sample Bush Tucker food, browse craft from local stallholders, experience a Smoking Ceremony, enjoy activities and see our Indigenous Mural being unveiled at 11.30am! Something we are proud to share with the community.
