Update from Village Township Group

By President Seamus Smith

Proposed designs in Village Structure Plan.

Following on from the article in the last edition of the Gully News, we have received several responses from residents to the questions raised.

Common themes are disappointment in the lack of progress of the Village Structure Plan, acknowledgements of the Villages unique location and opportunities for improvements.

Several submitters also identified the opportunity of promoting walking trails from the Station to the Quarry and beyond. All of these provide valuable insight as we further our push for attention to the Village and respect for the communityโ€™s visions in the Structure Plan.

We will be formalising a proposal to Council in coming months. Please keep sending us your suggestions to: villagetownshipgroup.ftg@gmail.com

Village Parking Review

โ€˜Council is preparing a proposal to introduce a mix of short-term parking (15 โ€“ 30 minutes) to improve turnover and better support the needs of local businesses.โ€™

This advice from council is in response to representations made to officers earlier this year and our attendance at the June council meeting. The review is proposed to be undertaken in the next few weeks.

Station Street road works

A 13 signature petition was presented to Council at the June 2025 meeting, from local traders concerned with roadwork closures in Station Street regarding the lack of signage notifying the public that the shops are still open (similar to the signage at the Mountain Highway roadworks), the delay in the finalising of the works and seeking financial redress by Council.
