DESCRIPTION:Sunday 27 July is National Tree Planting Day.  To celebrate\, join us for a free\, family-friendly event to discover the wonders of nature and contribute to the environment by planting 3\,000 native trees\, shrubs\, and ground covers at Koolamara Waters Reserve\, Ferntree Gully\, a hotspot for waterbirds in Knox. \n\nHelp support local biodiversity by strengthening habitat corridors for local fauna and flora\, linking Koolamara Waters Reserve to nearby areas such as the Dandenong Ranges.\nHelp us increase the tree canopy cover in Knox to 30% by 2050 in line with our Biodiversity Resilience Strategy 2024 – 2034 and Climate Response Plan.\nMeet other biodiversity enthusiasts and some of our local environmental volunteer groups. \nEnjoy a free BBQ by the Rotary Club of Ferntree Gully\nTools for planting are provided.\nPlease supply your own gloves and drink bottle.\n\nCall 9298 8000 or email biodiversity@knox.vic.gov.au

DESCRIPTION:Curious about the flora and fauna around you? Wanting to know how you can support resilient biodiversity and climate? Join the 2025 Knox Nature Stewards Program today. \nThe 10 week program running between April and June  (exc public holiday weekends 19 & 24 April\, and 7 June) will allow you to discover more about the natural environment  around you. \nWhilst immersed in nature\, participants attend lectures and field trips guided by experts\, land managers and local environmental champions. The program includes the following topics: \n\nEcology and ecosystems\nIndigenous cultures and places including ways to care for Country\nGeology and soils\nFlora\, fungi and fauna\nWaterways and water life\nSeasons\, climate and fire ecology\, and;\nHow to become a citizen scientist\, conservation volunteer\, or nature guide.\n\n4-6 field trips will run after classes from 1.30-4.30pm. \nThe program is open to anyone 18 years and over.
