This is the 30th anniversary year of the Temple\, making this year’s Mahotsavam extra special for the Temple and all its devotees. \nA Mahotsavam is a very significant event for Hindus. This one will involve a procession through The Basin streets. It will be colourful and will honour the main deity of the temple\, the elephant-headed god. A statue of him will be carried in a chariot. He has many names including Ganesha or Vinayagar (which is the name of the temple). \n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you all across the 10-day festival. Bookings essential. \nTitled ‘History and Mystery’\, the tours are a joint venture by the Knox Historical Society and the FTG Arts Society. \nDuring the tours\, guide Karin Orpen beguiles participants with stories of pioneer settlers\, unsolved murders\, scandals and loveable eccentrics. There’s history and intrigue. Karin is assisted by Tricia\, whose dedicated research continues to elicit new information and  photographs which illustrate the stories of the cemetery. Tricia’s work means that tours can evolve. There are always new stories to be discovered. \nThe tours are fun\, informative and always conducted with respect. DESCRIPTION:Our much loved Carols by Candlelight will be a virtual event full of fun and festivity this year. The annual Upwey Archies is on again! \nInspired by the Archibald Prize\, the Upwey Archies is an annual community portrait event organised by Upwey Community Group\, in partnership with Burrinja Cultural Centre. A sensational opportunity for local aspiring artists to create an original artwork celebrating a person special to them and to have their work publicly displayed on the walls and windows in the Upwey Main Street shops. \nAward categories for both Open age and Youth (14 years and under) include Winner\, Highly Commended\, Heart (Encouragement) and Packing Room. And this year a ‘Community Favourite’ award has been added\, with members of the community encouraged to vote for their favourite portrait. The works are judged by an art expert (last year’s winner)\, and awards are officially announced at a special celebration in the Upwey Village Square\, in late October. \nThe Upwey Archies Portraits bring a real ‘sparkle’ to the village from 16 October\, through to 16  November.
