Upper Gully Market gives back to the community

By Ian Rice, Gully Market President

The Gully Market is located in the Upper Ferntree Gully railway station car park. It operates every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm and has been running for nearly 50 years.

The Gully community market has taken on a more proactive role recently to distribute funds raised through stall fees back into the community. The first was Upper Gully CFA, receiving $2300 on 2 September 2023.

On Friday 29 September we had a special market, with all stall fees collected ($210) being donated to the Upper Gully Jnr Football Club. Then Angliss Hospital, with a donation of $5000 (14/10/23).

Then leading up to Christmas we donated $1500 to the Foothills Community Care organisation, which was used to provide Christmas lunch for 320 people. Checkout the website of this amazing organisation.
Also at Christmas we donated $1500 to the FTG Salvation Army which was used to expand their 24 hour emergency food bank.

On the weekend of 27-28 April, the stall fees collected totalling $515 was donated to the Boronia RSL Anzac appeal. From the Motherโ€™s Day weekend we will be donating $2655 to the Otis foundation. The presentation of funds will be made on Sat 18 May at 11am.

Otis provide holiday retreats for breast cancer patients and families or friends all over Australia. This donation provides just over five families with 5 days accommodation. Please readers, take the time to read their website. It is truly an amazing organisation, and donate, donate. Everyone knows someone who has had or has breast cancer, and how devastating it can be for the whole family.

We look forward to continue to give back to the community and invite the local community to visit the market and check out the variety of stalls we are building up, and striving to add to on a weekly basis. After all, we need the support of the community to achieve our aims of giving back to the community.

I take this opportunity to thank the community for their past and future support. For contact details, email us at thegullymarket@gmail.com
